We're getting word that Zynga has just cut a significant chunk of the work forces in its Boston, Austin and Chicago studios.

According to one source talking with Joystiq, "so what I know as of now (is) that The Ville and Bingo teams were cut".

The Ville and Zynga Bingo are titles currently managed by Zynga Austin and - according to the source - only 70 people now remain at the studio.

Boston has apparently experienced similar cuts.

Though he goes on to state that he's unsure about the state of Zynga Chicago, the Twittersphere is currently ablaze with (unverified) news that that studio has suffered losses also.

According to The Next Web, this will also see the closure of The Ville itself. The Facebook game - which was the subject of a copyright infringement lawsuit levelled by Electronic Arts - will apparently be discontinued.

The rumour comes at an extremely fortunate time for the social games giant, as it was leaked out while the world's attention is focused on Apple's unveiling of the new iPad and iPad Mini.

We've reached out to Zynga for more details.
