According to Kotaku, Sony showcased the PSP 2 during a private meeting in its Tokyo office around the time of the Tokyo Game Show in September.

The site's sources seem to corroborate the existence of the rumoured rear touch panel, but Sony was reluctant to discuss how the panel would function in a software environment.

The only other feature revealed by the site is the screen size, which is apparently 'about an inch' bigger than the PSP, and 'HD'. Kotaku also suggests that the release window for the PSP 2 is 'fall 2011'.

Sony is reportedly having problems balancing the power and heat output of the PSP 2, and the specs are 'expected to change'.

It's doubtful we'll know the true capabilities of the new device until Sony makes an official announcement.
