Rumour: Asus launching quad-core Eee Pad Transformer next month
Currently in dis-guise
A listing on LambdaTek Component shop (great name) appears to reveal that a successor to Asus’s popular Eee Pad Transformer is coming next month.
This as-yet-unconfirmed device is listed as a Tegra 3 quad-core device with 1GB of RAM and the same 10.1-inch screen as its predecessor.
According to the listing, this mystery tablet / laptop hybrid will cost £448 to pre-order, a price that’s just shy of the Apple iPad 2 (and a good hundred pounds more than Asus's current model).
Silver medalThe original fared well with our review minions, nabbing a Pocket Gamer Silver Award for its versatility and unusual design (compared to other tablets, that is). We wouldn’t mind, therefore, seeing a follow-up, albeit probably not quite as soon after the original landed.
However, given that this is the first time we’ve heard of a successor - and that it comes from a retailer, rather than a confirmed source - I wouldn’t get too overexcited just yet.
That said, the original source for the story has since had its English version censored by Asus. Make of that what you will.
