Relaunch, price drop rumoured for PSPgo
Sony hoping for another go at a first impression
Most people weren't exactly opposed to the PSPgo in principle - the onboard storage, more compact frame, focus on digital content, and nice redesign all pointed toward a great way to get a cut-down, budget range PSP.
Except it wasn't budget range. It was pretty much the same price as a PS3, while being considerably more expensive than a PSP-3000 (or the Wii and Xbox 360, for that matter) and therein was Sony's whopping launch mistake.
But according to Gamervision, unnamed sources have said that Sony is looking to try again with an imminent relaunch of the PSPgo. As part of this rumoured second attempt to get the PSPgo going, a price drop is expected to take centre stage.
While giving people a reason to upgrade to a UMD-less device wouldn't be easy, repositioning the PSPgo as a cut-down console at a very affordable price would undoubtedly see it fly off the shelves. It seems unlike that Sony will halve the price, however, and that's what it'd take.
We shall see.
