Worldwide sales grow for Sony's handheld

PSP sales up by over 4 million on last year

Just to carry on our 'PSP is brilliant' theme today (following on from earlier news that more than double the number of PSPs than Wiis were sold in Japan last month) we've got more news gleaned from Sony's just-released full-year financials of the console's success.

The report states that worldwide sales of the handheld during the financial year that ended in April were 13.89 million. Which is up a significant amount on the previous year when the console sold 9.77 million.

No specific regional breakdowns were given in the report so it's unknown how sales have increased in individual territories. High sales in Japan over the last few months are likely to have contributed largely, though, and it'd be interesting to know exactly how much that territory accounts for the console's overall success throughout the year.

But either way, sales are going the right way for Sony. It'll be interesting to see if publisher support increases this financial year as a result.
