Sony's PSP continues to outsell its hardware rivals in Japan, as shown by the latest sales data for the week ending May 25th.

The console sold 64,449 units in total, down slightly from the previous seven-day period when it managed 70,536.

Not to upset the now typical layout, still sitting in second place is Wii, which totalled 49,047 sales, while DS was the third best seller with 37,404 units going to new owners.

PSP has been number one for long enough now, that we're beginning to think it's got momentum of its own, rather than relying on Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G to account for its retail performance. It doesn't anyway, as last week's 51,000 sales of the game are clearly below the 64,449 units the handheld shifted.

Unless the reality is that without Capcom's game, only 13,449 people would have bothered to pick up Sony's portable. Gulp.
