PSP continues to be best-selling console in Japan
And the gap's getting wider
Last week we talk about the fact PSP had managed to outsell DS in Japan for the week ending February 24th.
So Sony will be pleased its handheld has done it again in the week ending March 2nd, according to the latest data from Media Create, and this time in more spectacular fashion.
The figures show that PSP shifted a massive 73,706 units during that week, compared to 51,922 Nintendo DS consoles. We wouldn't normally mention the home consoles, but to bring the popularity of the handhelds into perspective, Xbox 360 sold an abysmal 2,282 units, while Playstation 3 didn't exactly impress with just 13,520. The Wii juggernaut shows no sign of slowing down, and certainly not in Japan where it managed 64,535 units sold.
The PSP's sales spurt last week coincides with the release of the new mint green edition of the handheld in Japan (pictured) – clearly an in-demand colour.
It's likely to continue, too, with the release of a new addition to the hugely popular Monster Hunter franchise, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, at the end of March. This will then be followed by the bronze PSP in April.
So it would seem PSP is finally getting the sales it deserves. And about time, too.
