Although it's not exactly handheld gaming, we did think it was worth mentioning that some of Sega's DS and mobile titles are now available to play for free online through your net browser.

A new gaming portal called PlaySEGA.com has just launched, and aims to bring a host of Sega's arcade, word, card, puzzle, quiz, Sonic and sports games to your desktop for the bargain price of 'nowt.

A cursory glance about the page revealed the mobile version of Sonic at the Olympic Games and Brain Assist previously for the DS, so there are a few titles on there that should appeal to the pocket gamer.

We gave it a try loading the portal on the iPhone, just in case, but alas it needs Flash. Bah.

Anyway, if you fancy taking a look at the odd mobile or DS game online, head on over to PlaySEGA and tell 'em Pocket Gamer sent you.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
