Play Quake 3 on your mobile at 100 fps with Intel’s Atom Z processor
Play it all day, almost
You’ve been able to play id Software's seminal shooter Quake 3 on mobile devices for some time.
The likes of Android, Nokia’s N900 and the iPhone have all received a slice of the FPS action through one hack or other.
But none of them has been able to run the game at 100 frames per second.
Intel has just been showing off its new mobile processor series, Atom Z. Not only will it be extremely energy efficient – Intel believes we’ll be seeing phones with a 10 day standby battery life by the end of the year – but it’ll be a formidably strong performer on the gaming front too.
Intel showed the game running on a prototype device at an admittedly unplayable 100fps but it was an effective demonstration of the power and sheer gaming potential of forthcoming Atom Z-Series devices.
