In his biography, Steve Jobs is quoted as saying that he had “finally cracked” Apple TV.

According to a report in the New York Times, he wasn’t referring to the hardware itself - though that is coming - but to a novel means of controlling it: as with the iPhone 4S and its Siri personal assistant, you'll be able to use your voice.

Both the hardware and the Siri-style interface for it are currently rumours, but the author of the NYT report, Nick Bilson, is in little doubt that a voice-controlled flatscreen Apple TV are on the way.

"It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when," he says. And by that he means 2013, with an announcement in 2012.
