Dutch tech team Swinx has announced the launch of a peculiar new games system that requires players to not only be the controller (as with the Wii, for instance), but also provide the characters - running about the place and following the commands of the voice-equipped hardware.

"Swinx is the perfect marriage of traditional games and technology, both of which kids love. It's both physical and creative, safe and even educational which appeals to us parents," inventor Eduard Zanen told Electric Pig.

Conceived by a former Nokia handset designer, the small Swinx systems are strapped to player's wrists and become the electronic referees in a game of tag, hide and seek or musical chairs between up to ten players. The active, collaborative nature of Swinx is causing something of a sensation on its native soil, so keep an eye out for this unique new gaming opportunity as it filters through to the UK.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
