It launched in the US four months later than Japan and a month later than Europe - on 28 March - but Nintendo's supersized DSi XL seems to have sold well.

According to retail analyst NPD, during its first four days on sale, it sold 141,000 units or 20 percent of the total 700,800 DSes sold during throughout March.

This boosted the DS to be the top selling console for the month, outselling the next placed console Wii by 143,000 units.

In contrast, PSP sold 119,900 units, behind Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

It was a good month for DS software too with Pokemon SoulSilver selling 1.02 million copies and Pokemon HeartGold selling 761,200 units; being the second and fifth best selling games respectively in the US during March.
