Nintendo confirms new 2D Mario title heading to 3DS within next fiscal year

During a corporate policy briefing for Nintendo, company president Satoru Iwata revealed there would be a new 2D Mario game heading to the 3DS "in the next fiscal year" (April 1st, 2012 - March 31st, 2013).

This as-yet-unnamed title (we're guessing it has 'Mario' somewhere in there, though) joins Paper Mario and Mario Tennis on the list of upcoming 3DS games that will focus on the blue-braced plumber.

No further details about what to expect from this next instalment were announced, but we'd hazard a guess and say that mushrooms, platforms, and Goombas will be involved.

The most recent Mario title Super Mario 3D Land leapt onto our heads and grabbed a rather brilliant Pocket Gamer Gold Award late last year, so we're very much looking forward to seeing what direction Nintendo will take the moustachioed hero in next.
