Nintendo announces Amsterdam press conference for January: 3DS release date coming?

Nintendo has shot out a spartan press release mentioning a forthcoming press conference to be held in Amsterdam.

At 3PM CET (2PM GMT) on January 19th 2011, Nintendo will host an exclusive event for press in the capital of the Netherlands.

That’s about it. No mention of the games or systems that will be discussed. But there’s every reason to believe that Nintendo will reveal the final release date, price, and maybe even launch game line-up for the 3DS.

If you've been living under a rock for the past few months, the 3DS is Nintendo's next console, and the successor to the DS. It pumps out stereoscopic, 3D visuals without the need for those goofy goggles you're forced to wear in the cinema.

It's also more powerful than the original DS, and packs a widescreen display up top to make games like Kid Icarus, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Mario Kart look brilliant, as well as popping out the screen and poking you in the cornea.

The 3DS is confirmed for release in Japan for Februray 26th, 2011, and will cost 25,000 Yen. We're stuck with a vague "March 2011" release, and an estimated £200 price tag. Hopefully, we'll find out the exact details at this event.
