It has been confirmed that Nintendo's eagerly awaited 3DS will be making an appearance at CES, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow.

Unfortunately for information starved gamers, this will be for press only. No formal announcement will be made by Nintendo. This reduces the chance of any major details being revealed, but expect plenty of 3DS talk in the media over the coming days.

The 3DS is Nintendo's successor to the DS, offering 3D visuals without the need for those annoying plastic glasses.

Rumour suggests that the 3DS may use cartridges up to 8GB, which, if used to capacity, will allow games up to 16 times bigger than its DS counterpart.

A confirmed release date of February is scheduled for Japan, with a relatively vague 'March 2011' set for Europe. The 3DS is estimated to cost around £200.
