Though the N-Gage as we presently know and love it may have been retired, Nokia will continue to fly the flag for advanced mobile phone gaming with a new range of Series 60 smartphones. And while we’ve yet to be shown any specific details about these new handsets, games developers were given their first insight in December into what the N-Gage is destined to become over the next 12 months. Nokia held a series of workshops to lay out just what the new handsets will be capable of and to provide details of the features that they want the games to include. The N-Gage Arena, which brings together gamers from all over the world to compete together in multi-player titles, will live on in the N-Gage compatible Series 60 phones, for instance. “Working with [these] developers at each workshop is a crucial initial step to introduce the new gaming platform,” Kamar Shah, a Nokia spokesperson commented. "Our first party developers have already worked on the N-Gage platform and know how to push the boundaries of mobile gaming. This will ensure that our next generation mobile gaming platform offers a plethora of rich, immersive mobile gaming experiences right from launch”, he continued.

The developers themselves were equally as excited. “The workshop left us with a feeling of excitement about Nokia's commitment to making mobile gaming a more accessible and widespread experience across millions of mobile phones”, explained Backbone Entertainment’s Joe Bonar. “Backbone is working closely with Nokia to create distinctive and entertaining games that harness a phone's technical abilities to create unique and compelling mobile games experiences.” The recently-announced Shadow-Born stands as testament to the next-generation of N-Gage gaming and we’ll keep you up to date with any and all future developments…
