Mid-week iOS releases: Chaos Rings II, DoDonPachi Resurrection HD, Picnic Wars, MotoHeroz, and more

Welcome back to Pocket Gamer's round-up of the latest iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad mid-week releases.

As you all probably know by now, we produce this article each week because we're simply too busy to bring you a story on every single new game that hits the App Store.

These games have recently hit Apple's New Zealand outlet, meaning they should be available to download in the UK and US from around midnight this evening.

MotoHeroz is a great-looking side-scrolling racer that allows you to compete in a series of frantic rally races across 30 colourful tracks.

You can jump behind the wheel of six unique vehicles and battle it out against computer-controlled opponents in the game's Story mode, or compete against your friends in a series of asynchronous multiplayer bouts.

Chaos Rings II

Chaos Rings II is actually the third instalment (after Chaos Rings and Chaos Rings Omega) in Square Enix's award-winning series of iOS role-playing games, which see you take part in turn-based battles against a variety of baddies.

This time around, you can experience a storyline that is "moulded" by your choices, and utilise the game's all-new strategic battle system.

Square Enix has already promised a number of free updates in the future, which will increase your level cap, add new quests, and introduce fresh bosses.

Dreamy Goat

Dreamy Goat is, erm, an extremely strange title in which you play a goat who goes to sleep and dreams of jumping. Yeah.

There are two game modes to delve into here: Sun, which is for players who seek a challenge; and Zen, which is for players seeking the exact opposite.

There are seven dream worlds to explore.

Picnic Wars

Picnic Wars throws you headlong into a vicious battle between fruits and vegetables. You can take on the role of either party and destroy your foe's defences by catapulting helpless grub at them.

There are 23 different kinds of fruit and veg to hurl throughout the game's 64-level campaign, such as tomatoes, eggplants, mushrooms, and strawberries.

You can also unlock 12 varieties of launcher.

Cheese Please

Cheese Please is an interesting puzzler that kindly asks you to help a small mouse named Laura navigate a series of tricky mazes and nab her favourite food. That's cheese, naturally.

There are currently 60 obstacle-filled filled levels to overcome with more expected in future updates.

Game Center is baked into the app, so you can unlock shiny accolades to show your buddies as you progress.

The Island - Castaway

The Island - Castaway places you in the role of a lucky survivor of a sinking cruise liner. Stranded on an island, you have to learn how to fish, catch boar, kill snakes, and, well, survive.

Your adventure is spread across 12 locations, which feature 14 unique characters and 200 quests.

If you hope to ever return home, you'll have to solve these quests and decrypt ancient writings that are scattered throughout your adventure.

Fireball SE

Fireball SE, which is from the creator of the Pocket Gamer Silver Award-winning Super Crossfire, is a movement-oriented arcade game that sees you dodge waves of enemies before leading them to their destruction.

You do this over two different difficulty levels and four unique game modes.

These are: Meltdown, which allows you to slow down the action and avoid your own demise; Waves, which sees you play through eight consecutive waves of ever-increasing size and speed; Countdown, which pits you against five three-minute levels; and Survival, which is pretty self-explanatory.

Rune Raiders

Rune Raiders is a casual adventure title in which you hire a team of 12 unique heroes - each with six levels of upgrades - and head into dungeons to battle enemies and big bosses.

There are 15 of these beasties to contend with, Game Center achievements to unlock, and two different game modes to play through: Story and Survival.

Harry the Fairy

Harry the Fairy is a colourful fantasy-filled adventure that follows Harry (who is a fairy, unsurprisingly) as he attempts to rescue his fairy buddies from their kidnappers.

You have to help the little blighter work his way through a series of dangerous levels, which are littered with deadly drills, falling barrels, spinning spikes, and other nasty hazards.

There are 28 of these levels spread across four different environments: underground, caves, lava pits, and inferno.

Kung Fu Rabbit

In Kung Fu Rabbit, you step into the 'shoes' of a martial arts-loving bunny, who is seeking revenge on the evil sods that have abducted all of his friends.

You can use your agility to effortlessly hop across rooftops, slide down walls, sneak up on your enemies, and rip them to shreds. To shreds, we tell you.

There are 70 levels spread across two different difficulty levels: Normal and Hard.

DoDonPachi Resurrection HD

DoDonPachi Resurrection HD is a fast-paced shoot-'em-up from bullet-hell specialist Cave. If you don't know what 'bullet-hell' means, just prepare yourself to dodge screenfuls of bullets and enemies.

This high-definition shooter features two game modes: Arcade, which is a straight port of the classic arcade shooter; and Smartphone, which tailors the experience to your iPhone or iPad.

Game Center and OpenFeint are on board, meaning you can unlock achievements and tackle leaderboards as you play.

Super Lemonade Factory

Super Lemonade Factory isn't a tycoon game as you might expect from its name. Instead, it's a challenging platformer.

You take control of two different characters: Andre and Liselot - both of which have unique abilities. You'll have to utilise both characters if you wish to solve the game's puzzles and complete all 72 levels.

When you've finished, you can sit back and create your own levels using the same tools as the title's developer.
