Man makes Super Nintendo portable
Better than DS?
If there's one thing the internet proves to us when we're idly surfing it on a Wednesday afternoon, it's that there's a lot of people with too much time on their hands.
Still, thank heavens, because if Ben Heck had better things to do he wouldn't have created a handheld Super Nintendo. According to his blog (brought to our attention by TechDigest), his project to make a portable SNES began last Christmas and has only just reached completion.
But - look at the picture, taken from Ben's blog - all those hours have certainly been worth it. Using a simple off-the-shelf plastic case and the ability to take out a SNES's innards and compile them back together so they actually work, he has demonstrated what could have been all those years ago had Nintendo realised how easy it was to make a mini-SNES.
The customised console features two internal lithium-polymer batteries, a purpose-built cartridge slot, an original SNES D-pad and AV and headphone jacks.
Admittedly it's no DS Lite, but just imagine playing F-Zero and Super Mario Kart in their SNES glory on this retro-looking bit of console craftsmanship. Well done that man.
