Lloyd-Webber musicals coming to mobile
Musical maestro looking to expand into games
Ever fancied yourself as Jesus Christ Superstar? Of course you have – he’s the original action hero, after all.
Well, Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s Really Useful Group (set up way back in 1977 to oversee his stage shows’ interests in TV, film and other media) is apparently looking to branch out into PC and mobile gaming as part of a new multimedia initiative.
According to PaidContent.org, the RUG has been talking to several big name publishers with the intention of bringing musicals such as Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and Cats to the gaming realm, most likely in the form of sing-along or rhythm based titles.
Interest has been high, as this avenue of licensing is likely to appeal to the ever increasing female gamer demographic.
“With the video gaming audience having moved from its male-dominated roots towards a more family-oriented demographic, now is the perfect time for us to take some of the best-known names in musical entertainment in a more interactive direction,” says RUG’s digital director, Douglas Glen (that’s director of its digital arm, not a computer controlled director, you understand).
EA is a likely candidate to publish such games, due to its track record for licensed media and its long reach into both the PC and mobile gaming industries.
