Iwata: Future Nintendo consoles will have 3D, but it will be a 'minor element'
Still believes 3D is better than 2D, though
In a recent interview with The Independent, Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata confirmed that 3D will continue to be present in Nintendo's future console plans, albeit in a diminished role.
With the release of the Nintendo 3DS XL on the horizon, Iwata remarked that although he believes that 'generally 3D is better than 2D', he doesn't think that Nintendo will 'present [3D graphics] as one of the key features' in future.
Greater immersion
This marks an apparent U-turn from the company after initial advertising and marketing of the 3DS dwelt heavily on selling the 3D screen to the public.
Despite this more measured enthusiasm for the type of display, it seems that Nintendo doesn't want to step away from 3D systems altogether, with Iwata stating that Nintendo will 'stick with 3D as one of the minor elements of its consoles in the future'.
