While its performance in Europe and the US remains worryingly slow, the PSP continues to sell very well in Japan.

Last week it was the best selling console of all, and with 48,603 units sold it beats out the combined power of DS XL, or DS LL as it's called in Japan (23,120), DSi (17,950), and DS Lite (4,058), not to mention PS3, Wii, and the rest.

Good game

Of course, it's occured in this particular week thanks to the release of a popular game - rhythm title Hatsune Miku Project Diva 2nd - which has encouraged hardware sales.

Similarly, Konami recently announced that 40 per cent of its total game sales between January and June 2010 were on PSP, mainly because of Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker.

Yet, it's not all good news for Sony. Even in the Japan, the PSPgo is a stinker, with only 777 units of the digital-only redesign sold.
