GSMA announces Global Mobile Awards 2008 nominees

Sometimes, you see the nominations list for a mobile game award, and think 'Goodness, they're all great titles, I've got no idea which one will win, but they all deserve to'. And sometimes you don't.

The GSMA has just announced the nominations for its Global Mobile Awards 2008, which include a games category. The games up for nomination are:

  • Call of the Pharoah (Cellufun)
  • Burnout (EA Mobile)
  • Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (Fox Entertainment)
  • My Hangman (Glu)
  • My Dog II (I-play)

Congratulations to the nominees and all that - and we don't mean to rag on any publisher or game specifically - but it seems like a judging panel stuffed full of industry analysts has come up with a shortlist that doesn't represent the best of what mobile gaming had to offer in 2007.

And we LIKE Burnout, My Hangman and My Dog II.

Still, publishers paid €520 or €800 per game to enter (depending on whether they were a GSMA member or not), so perhaps some of the games we would have expected to see on the shortlist just weren't submitted.

Anyway, the winner will be announced at next month's Mobile World Congress show.
