Not quite an iPhone killer, but slays itself a mean Droid

With the Google-owned Nexus One smartphone now out in the wild, Gizmodo has managed to snare itself an Android-powered beast and pit it against the iPhone 3GS and Motorola Droid.

On an aesthetic level, the Nexus One appears to come out on top, with a slim design and quality feel to the casing. The OLED screen is also reported as being impressively bright and with excellent contrast.

Although it performed fastest when loading a web page over a wi-fi connection, the iPhone 3GS came out on top with a Javascript benchmark test.

The lack of multitouch on the Nexus One did its touchscreen no favours, and the general quality of its camera and onboard audio playback also failed to impress.

All in all, it seems to come out on a par with the iPhone 3GS, despite the two handsets having clearly different strengths. The Droid failed to measure up on any front, regrettably, so although the Nexus One isn't quite an iPhone killer, the Motorola handset had better watch its back.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
