First TV ad for Sony Ericsson's 'PlayStation Phone' Xperia Play hits web before Super Bowl splash
How to hit 100 million consumers in 30 seconds
Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play might have dropped its PlayStation pseudonym during development, but those working on the Android handset will be hoping the first ad for the device - rumoured to air in the US during Super Bowl tomorrow - will perk the interest of gamers the world over.
Said TV spot despicts the Android robot having human thumbs stitched onto his hands, with the promo declaring that Google's platform is finally 'ready to play'.
Game on for Google
Indeed, Android advocates are already pitching Xperia Play - which insiders expect to feature heavily at Mobile World Congress later this month - as the platform's first real 'iPhone killer', thanks to its focus on gaming.
Rumours suggest the device will be the first to come equipped with Sony's recently unveiled PlayStation Suite, which will make both key releases from the original PlayStation's line up and fresh titles available for download.
However, eager eyed viewers will note that the ad makes only passing reference to PlayStation - a 'PlayStation Certified' badge appearing in the top right at the end of the spot - with Sony Ericsson's logo taking centre stage, instead.
