Epic: NGP 'four times as powerful as any portable we've previously seen'
Thanks to super-GPU

During this morning’s official announcement of Sony’s next portable console, the NGP, Epic Games’s founder Tim Sweeney found time to praise the new handheld's power.
Sweeney claimed that the graphical processing power of the successor to the PSP is four times greater than any other portable device yet seen. He then demonstrated the studio’s Unreal Engine 3 running on the device with an updated version of the Epic Citadel tech demo, which this time incorporated a snow storm.
The engine, which powers iOS heavyweight Infinity Blade, looked so good that CVG’s observer remarked that it looked like it should have been running on a PS3.
Sweeney said of the demo that, “this is made possible by Sony’s multi-core GPU which is roughly four times as powerful as anything we’ve previously seen”.
He also demoed an NGP version of Dungeon Defenders, which he said offered “console controls for movement and touch screen controls for interaction.” That could well solve our key problems with Trendy Entertainment's ambitious game.
Before signing off, Sweeney declared that “we’re very excited and think you’ll be stunned at what’s possible on Sony’s next generation portable platform.”
