E3 2010: Sony underwhelms with limited PSP showing
Few games, no price drop, no new hardware

At the Sony's annual E3 press conference today, PSP had an underwhelming showing with little in the way of new announcements and games.
Despite the insistence of president and CEO Jack Tretton that "PSP is the portable platform for gaming," the small slate of games shown during the press event hardly supports the point.
While Sony rightly put the focus on games, there is a surprisingly short list of titles heading to the system in 2010 when compared to competing portables.
Instead of revealing a new PSP or dropping the price of PSPgo as had been widely expected, Sony has opted to spend money on a new marketing campaign in hopes of energising the lagging platform in Europe and the US.
It's unclear how a new marketing campaign will revitalise PSP, particularly given the aggressive approach by Nintendo with its impressive Nintendo 3DS and Apple's newly announced iPhone 4.
Games like God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Invizimals, and The 3rd Birthday do support the notion that PSP has the eye of serious developers.
Surely, these titles promise to push the boundaries of portable gaming; however, it's evident that the flexibility of iPhone and iPod touch, and the innovation of Nintendo 3DS could pull developers away from PSP.
