Nintendo Japan has just announced that the latest colour to adorn the shell of its multi-million-selling 3DS console will be Cobalt Blue.

The Cobalt Blue edition will sit alongside the five other available models - Aqua Blue, Cosmos Black, Ice White, Coral Pink, and Metallic Red - and provide prospective 3DS owners with even more choice when picking the portable that defines them best.

Those with good memories will remember that this is not the first time Nintendo has 'pimped' one of its handhelds with this colour, with a Cobalt / Black DS Lite appearing way back in 2008.

Blue (Da Ba Dee)

The new Cobalt Blue 3DS unit will land in Japanese stores on March 22nd, which just happens to be the day that the highly anticipated Kid Icarus: Uprising launches.

However, fans of tactical JRPGs and "cool, slightly desaturated" blues might want to hold off until April 19th, when Nintendo is dropping a limited edition Fire Emblem Awakening console bundle containing a unique lid design, a copy of the game, and a themed eShop card.

Decision, decisions...
