Not many publishers can claim to have brought two seminal releases to iPhone within 12 months. Yet, with both Angry Birds and Cut the Rope under its belt, Chillingo has fostered a reputation for being able to spot a hit or two.

As such, when the releases from the house that EA bought is laid out in front of you, it's likely you're going to afford them more than a passing glance, even if Chillingo has moved beyond its former penchant for terrorising all things piggy.

Nevertheless, its releases for February certainly cater for all sorts.

Game in a box

Consisting of three games in one, Office Gamebox offers the kind of challenge that sits perfectly within that five minute tea break at work – or, rather, the five minutes you decide to skive off, tapping away on your phone while hiding in the staff bogs.

All three games are surprisingly addictive, but keep their set up relatively direct. For instance, one of the three challenges is a variation on Paper Toss, charging you with chucking screwed up bits of paper into a bin that moves around the office with each effort.

Doing so requires nothing more than a flick of the finger, though matters are complicated somewhat by a moving desk fan that requires you to alter your aim to accommodate its associated breeze.

The other two games are a touch more action-packed. One sees you ride on the back of an office chair, your only input being to time jumps – or, the longer you last, double jumps – over obstacles as you hurtle down a neverending corridor. Think The Flintstones meets Canabalt.

The final challenge is where penguins come into play, in what is truly a 'don't try this at home' moment.

Chucking said penguins off a ledge is the order of the day, with both your run-up and the ability to pick up items mid-flight – rockets keeping you airborne, fish giving you energy to flap your wings and bubbles ensuring you bounce back skywards when you hit the ground - keeping you in the air for longer.

None of the games are likely to dominate your play time, in truth, but even the briefest of looks here suggests there's potential enough for Office Gamebox to act as the casual man's first port of call when it launches on iPhone on February 17.

Play Kalei

Play Kalei – in development exclusively for iPad – offers up something completely different.

First glance suggests there's not much to it. The game is something of a picture hunt, either using its own library of snaps or those stored on your iPad.

Play Kalei essentially turns on spot at random into a mini kaleidoscope. Your job is to move your finger around the picture to find just where that spot is, using the colours featured as a guide as to just where it might be.

It's certainly no pushover. The photos I tried out - taken from the game's own collection - were full of pastel colours, meaning finding some form of distinction in amongst slew of similar shades was as a result of delicate movement around the screen, rather than pure instinct.

Play Kalei is more of a family-friendly release than a no-holes-barred thriller as a result – highlighted by the option to take on a friend locally – but just might come into its own should iPad 2 roll out with cameras equipped, as expected.

Chillingo's other releases in February include Angry Birds meets World of Goo game Sticky and twin-stick shooter Etolis: Arena.
