The success of Apple’s App Store business model cannot have gone unnoticed by the more established gaming giants in the industry. Capcom CEO Haruhiro Tsujimoto has suggested that Nintendo may attempt to emulate Apple’s success.

“What we're more looking forward to is the offering of a new business model,” he told andriasang.com. "Nintendo has been in the hardware business for a long time, and I believe they must be looking closely at Apple's recent success.”

He went on to say that third-party developers will be paying close attention to Nintendo’s E3 3DS announcement to see what direction the Kyoto giant will take.

That Capcom is so interested is news in itself, but if Nintendo does adopt any of Apple’s ideas we could be looking at a fascinating industry shift over the coming years.
