Burger King to launch branded mobile games
|

Fast food's most notable second act, Burger King, has announced that it is to release a series of mobile games featuring branded content, including the King himself.

The first game to arrive (which as of yet doesn't appear to have a name) will see you making a play for the coveted role of the King's protégé. Details are typically scant but we do know that the game will be set in a Burger King-themed city and we're expecting it to be some sort of mini-game compendium.

The plan is to promote the games in outlets and on food packaging. You'll request them via a text message that will then enable you to download and purchase the title of your choice.

These mobile games will not be Burger King's first foray into gaming. Last year, three Burger King-branded games were released for the Xbox 360: Pocketbike Racer, Big Bumpin and Sneak King.

The games received reasonably positive reviews, proving that BK had done its homework. What could have been a naïve and poorly executed marketing stunt ended up being served with an extra large helping of dignity and some fun on the side. Certainly, the venture was hugely successful.

As far as we're concerned this bodes well for the planned mobile titles, the first of which is scheduled to be ready for consumption in spring 2008. Rest assured, we will be planning a Pocket Gamer lunch outing as soon as it is released so that we can digest its merits and bring you a review.
