N-Gage + DS + Game Boy ...

Obviously we've already got mobile games pretty well covered here on Pocket Gamer. But we thought it was time that someone told the world about all the other amazing things you can do with your mobile phone. And so today we can proudly unveil our new sister site, Pocket Picks, which is dedicated to doing just that.

Pocket Picks will leave the comfy confines of the games folder and explore all the other ways in which you phone can keep you entertained, informed and hopefully amazed. There's plenty to explore already, including news of ITV's imminent mobile TV services, the latest on Nokia's plans to take on Apple over music downloads and Skype's entry into the mobile space, plus a guide to uploading your cameraphone snaps to the web, a hands-on trial of G-mail on the go and a handy introduction to mobile citizen journalism (a.k.a. How You Can Get On The News).

The mobile phone is the most rapidly adopted piece of technology ever invented. Its use has spread faster than that of the TV, the internet, even the wheel. Its growth shows no sign of stopping either, with around 915 million handsets expected to be sold worldwide this year (described by most in the industry as a conservative estimate).

However, whilst many parts of Europe already boast 100 per cent phone ownership rates (in other words, there's at least one phone per citizen), the number of us who are making the most of our mobile's capabilities lies rather lower. At about 0 per cent, we reckon.

You see there's a lot more to the modern mobile than simply making calls, sending text messages or taking the odd snap. Even customising with a ringtone and wallpaper or checking for your team's football scores barely scratches the surface of what you can do.

Nowadays most handsets are capable of streaming live TV shows and video, providing sporting highlights, downloading and playing the latest mp3 quality music, surfing the net, playing high quality games, letting you share your views via moblogs or video shows, losing your shirt on a poker table, and much much more.

So stand out from the crowd, start getting your money's worth from your mobile and check out Pocket Picks right now.
