3DS to launch in October?
Spooky timing

UK trade sources have told CVG that Nintendo’s 3DS will be released two months ahead of Christmas, in October.
The actual date of release will be revealed at this year’s E3, but it seems a fair bet that Sunday 10th may be the target (10/10/10).
This launch schedule will mean that Nintendo will be pitching its device alongside Microsoft’s Project Natal. Although not a direct competitor, the handheld will have to work harder for consumers’ coins as a result.
One of CVG’s sources said, “It's a surprise - we were expecting it much closer to Christmas. But I suppose it gives Nintendo the opportunity to get it front and centre in people's minds nice and early.
"In my experience, you don't launch a product that early to Christmas unless you're confident in it - and going to spend a lot of money on it. We're reassured that Nintendo is going to give it some decent backing in Q4."
The 3DS will be backwardly compatible with DS and DSi software, as well as being capable of displaying 3D images without the need for glasses. The two months grace before the holiday season will enable Nintendo to ensure customers are comfortable with the product in time for the gift buying rush.
