Monster Strike Mystery Record, a new puzzle focused spin on the pinball-like gacha RPG series, launches in Japan

The popular Monster Strike series has released its latest entry for Japanese gamers, this one far more different than the others. Monster Strike Mystery Record is looking to swing the traditional pinball-like gacha nature of the series and throw in a hefty bunch of mystery, focusing the game a lot more on puzzle-solving and world-building.

Monster Strike is a pretty popular series that has been running for quite some time now, utilizing a very unique form of combat that is a step removed from a traditional pinball game. While World Flipper might have turned the gacha genre into a true pinball-like, Monster Strike was around far before and used some similar mechanics to that.

Prior to Mystery Record, there was always a story to Monster Strike, but it was far more of a backdrop. Now, with this new entry, the story is front and centre, as are puzzles that you’ll have to solve to progress. Of course, it does keep the co-op focus that Monster Strike has always had, but this time you’ll be teaming up with your pals to solve mysteries instead of just simply fighting.

The normal gameplay is not gone entirely, however, as in between puzzles you’ll be taking part in a new 3D action system of battling. It’s an odd spin to put on a series that was a lot more gameplay focused and made it a bit closer to the puzzle game genre, but risks are almost always good. And if they aren’t good, they’re at least fun.

So, will Mystery Record be good, or will it simply be a weird spinoff that doesn’t match up to its massively successful sibling titles? Why not find out for yourself by downloading it for free at either of the links below?
