The Russians have a prolific and uncontrollable sense of humour – but it doesn't really translate into English all that well, so we generally don't tend to share comedy between the two nations.

Recently though, Russian mobile developers seem to be making a real effort to bring their satirical, sarcastic and wry comedic talent to our shores, with games like Mission R.I.P. and the all new McAlien's from NewEdge.

"While developing McAlien's we tried not only to create a game with addictive gameplay and funky graphics, but to amuse our players with funny and sarcastic texts," says Andrey Yunoshev, chief programmer at NewEdge.

After the Terrible Tentacled Aliens invaded Earth, they discovered the delights of human meat and set up a planet-wide food processing plant with us as the delectable xeno-delicacy. Your task in McAlien's is to front the human resistance and bring freedom to the battery farmed populace.

"In McAlien's the player can find a lot of hidden jokes, parodies and overtones that make the game even more pulling," comments Olga Znamenskaja, executive director at ANEM (publisher of McAlien's).

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
