THQ welcomes the superdeformed Marvel Super Hero Squad onto handheld
2009-due game will tie-in with animated TV show and other consumables

"THQ to license another kid-friendly brand in order to make games on as many game platforms as it possibly can."
As headlines goes, this is about a far as you can get from 'Man Bites Dog'. Perhaps 'Is this a record for the number of times a dog has bitten a man?' is a bit more like it.
It's particularly true in this case as the kid-friendly licence in question - Marvel Super Hero Squad - hasn't been properly launched yet.
Basically, it builds on the superdeformed 2-inch high figures of Marvel's classic superheroes and villains that you can buy, in turn transforming them into an animated TV show for a 4-10 year-old audience. That will launch in 2009 and is the main bit of license that THQ will base its game(s) on. (The deal is multi-year, so we're expecting more than one.)
Featuring characters such as Iron-Man, Hulk, Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, The Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom, Magneto, Iron Monger etc, it is also due in autumn 2009 and will arrive on handheld systems, consoles and PC.
More figures, dressing up clothes, construction toys and pillow cases will, no doubt, follow in its wake.
