Independent developer, Little Bear Studios has just announced an upcoming turn-based strategy game titled Magic and Machines, which will be launching soon on mobile and PC. It transports players into a retro fantasy world where they will build teams of six characters who will solve puzzles and take on enemies as they try to unearth the mystery behind their dying world.

Magic and Machines draws inspiration from popular titles like Chrono Trigger, Golden Sun, and Octopath Traveler, but ensures that there are equal amounts of nostalgia for long-time fans of the genre and its mechanics are simple enough to understand for newbies. Strategizing is of course necessary, but players won’t constantly need a guide for it and elements like progression and equipment setups have also been simplified.

The game begins in a small town, where a freak accident causes a chain reaction of unfortunate events. Cut to a few years in the future and the world is now plagued by monsters and is slowly decaying. Sacred Stones, crucial for survival are slowly disappearing one by one.

The gears start shifting when two childhood friends embark on a journey outside the small town. They only leave to find a missing colony but what awaits them is a crisis larger than they can ever imagine. A unique plethora of characters will come their way, and players will be able to form teams of three to six individuals who will help out on this mission.

Magic and Machines goes beyond the regular turn-based combat system with a unique feature called the Overlord mechanic. It allows players to supercharge a move and then use it twice. This can be used to strengthen attacks, lengthen the duration of effects, or even heal past max health.

Pre-registrations for Magic and Machines are currently open for both Android and iOS users. The game can be purchased for $1.99 by clicking on your preferred link below.
