In a world full of zombies, vampires and nazis, there's still some space for other enemies.

Indeed, in its Hungry Shark franchise - 40 million downloads to-date - developer Future Games of London puts you into the fins and fangs of the devil fish.

And with the release of Hungry Shark Evolution, it's time to revisit the watery depths and chomp on flesh all over again.

Killing machine

Incorporating 3D graphics into a free-roaming 2D-gameplay experience, you have to fatten up your shark by feasting on whatever you can find, also building up high score combos as you fight submarines, other sharks, and the weird and wonderful creatures of the deep.

However, as you go on you munching way, there are plenty of obstacles - mines, jellyfish, toxic barrels, divers etc - you'll have to avoid.

In keeping with arcade atmosphere, the controls are tilt-based and you collect shells and coins, and earn gems, to upgrade your shark in terms of its size, bite power, speed and boost ability.

Starting off as a small reef shark, you work your way up through mako, hammerhead and tiger to get to the great white.

Now available for iPhone and iPad, Hungry Shark Evolution is priced 99c, 69p or €0.89.
