Netflix and developer Rogue Games have announced that they’re teaming up to bring a brand new narrative adventure game steeped in atmosphere to mobile in the near future. This sci-fi tale takes you on a post-apocalyptic ride through a world overcome with a catastrophic flood, seeing you traverse the lands by boat as you meet tons of colourful characters and experience a thrilling story, all with a beautiful minimalistic art style that will immerse you within this moody world.

Highwater is light on the plot details thus far, but we can gather a few things from the trailer featured below. This story seems to weave a tale that sees you attempting to escape from this now-ruined Earth, and judging by the mention of what we can assume is a mega-corp and their desire to escape to Mars, it’s not an unreasonable guess to assume that our goal in the narrative is perhaps to escape right along with them.

Gameplay-wise, this one seems to focus on mostly exploration and atmosphere to do the job, similar to something like Kentucky Route Zero. You’ll be tapping the screen to move whomever you’re playing around in various ruined environments that seem to range from abandoned shopping malls to deserted islands and everything in between.

There also seems to be a prominent threat looming around corners here and there, which I would also guess is likely the same mega-corp mentioned prior. These yellow-suited, gun-toting baddies will likely impede progress as you explore, so they’re ones to watch out for.

For now, Highwater lacks an official release date or store page. As the trailer says, the game was originally slated for a 2022 release but missed that window, so hopefully, it’ll drop sooner than later. Stay tuned for any updates in that regard!
