Heroes of History guide - 7 tips to reach the next Eras quickly

If you want to start your journey the right way, I am here to help. You will build and expand your kingdom, and with our guide for Heroes of History, you'll learn exactly what you need to do so you can prosper.
I've always been a fan of games like Rise of Kingdoms, where you build and expand on your base and battle on the side. We've already covered the best civilizations in Rise of Kingdoms as well as the latest RoK codes, so if you're looking for that, you can find them right here.
Just like in RoK, in Heroes of History, you get to upgrade your buildings, expand your territory and wreak havoc among enemy waves in the Campaign bottles. You also have other fights, like the Arena or Tesla Storms, where you can form teams and either battle other players or form same-hero-type teams.
I've thoroughly enjoyed trying to build and find a good layout for my city, since the whole process reminds me of how I started out in Cookie Run Kingdom. Of course, minus all the decorations.
Things you need to know when starting Heroes of History
There are a couple of things you need to know when starting out, including whether or not it is free-to-play or P2W, and how well you can progress. You can enjoy the game as a F2P player
I've always been pro-F2P and always strive to find the best way to play for free, despite there being plenty of incentive from it to go premium. That's why, in today's article, I have shared plenty of Heroes of History tips to help you as a F2P player. When we talk about the premium aspect, as you might expect, there are many things you can spend your money on. If you want to consider that, you should look at the monthly subscription. That's what I think gives you the most bang for your buck.
As for the rest of the tips, we have plenty more on the following pages. From how to progress quickly to how to spend your resources, I've expanded on everything.

Tip #1 - Focus on the quest line

If your main goal is to advance quickly to the next Eras, you want to try completing the quests ASAP. The main quest lines each come with specific tasks, and as soon as you complete them, you will gain various rewards. I recommend you use the rewards to get and invest them into more upgrades, since most of the quests will require you to have specific upgrades completed.
Whenever possible, you should build and expand your territory too, since that will allow you to build even more. I am well aware that at the very start, you have quite limited space - to deal with this, make sure all of your buildings are next to each other, and you don't have a lot of unusable space. Until you've expanded quite a bit, that is easier said than done. However, you should still try to do it and manage with the buildings you have.
Some quests will ask you to have a certain number of houses or whatnot, and if you can't seem to find the space to put them, simply store one of the buildings that are not required for that quest, build whatever the quests require, then store the newly built facility in favour of the previous one. This is something you should be mindful of, especially if you used your Gems to build one of the premium buildings (which are typically not required by quests).
The sooner you advance, the better.

Tip #2 - Upgrade a few select heroes

Since we all know how scarce resources are at the beginning, you shouldn't spend them on upgrading every single hero you have. You will need 5 heroes total, and since the chances are pretty slim of getting one of the top-rated heroes right off the bat, a lower-rarity one will do.
You can start by upgrading all the heroes that have the highest stars (until you get some of the best ones, that is), and make sure you always deploy them. After all, there's no point in levelling up everything since you can only use a handful of them.
Then, you need to try Ascending them. Since each hero has an element, you will need specific crests to Ascend them. Those can be acquired from the Tesla Storms, and I strongly recommend you do those up to the highest level possible.
So what you need to remember is that you should always focus on just a few heroes, and not waste your resources on everything. In case you need help picking the right ones, visit the Heroes of History tier list.

Tip #3 - Maximise your base layout

I've briefly mentioned this before, but the idea is to use every inch of your base you have available. You don't want to position your buildings just for the looks - you want them to be usable, and you want lots of them. In the beginning, it will be quite difficult to have everything built (especially the premium buildings), so you need to prioritise whichever buildings your city requires.
I suggest you have as many houses as possible, since they increase your population number. Then, have some farms (upgraded), and always place the boosters in the small spaces that can't fit a house or some other production building. This will always come in handy, since the goal is to have everything out and producing.

Tip #4 - How to manage your buildings efficiently

If you want to keep track of your buildings and make sure every single villager is currently doing something (because having idle villagers is not good for business), you should always look under the City Hall> Upgrade Management. There you can see what buildings you should upgrade, and try to have something upgraded at all times.
You will need to have villagers ready for upgrades, so if you don't have any available, just cancel some that are producing, and shift them towards an upgrade.

Tip #5 - Research at all times

Research plays an incredibly important role. It's not like in most other games - in Heroes of History, research is what allows you to move from ancient history (Iron Age) to contemporary times. Whenever you reach a new research tree, you also unlock new features, new territory expansions, and all the good stuff.
Research points refill automatically over time, and to research new branches, you need increasingly more points. As the research branches become more contemporary, their duration will also increase. From several seconds (which is how long it takes in the Iron Age), it will take you up to several hours.
Make sure you're always researching something, so you can progress even while you're not actively in the game. Especially in the early stages, this is what will help you progress quickly. Oh, and don't spend your Gems on speeding up the process.

Tip #6 - Consider watching ads for boosts

When you reach the Bronze Age, you'll start having a new tab in the City Hall - the Boosts tab. Here you can watch an ad to boost your Capital economy by up to 20%, and whenever you have this option available (because this feature is not always available), you should do it. The boosts typically last for a while, and they're truly worth it.
You can sometimes find various other boosts by watching ads, and I consider them to be worth it too - especially when the game offers to refill your research points for watching an ad. If you want to progress quickly as a F2P player, this is something you should consider. Every day you can watch up to 5 ads, and in the early stages, this will help you grow your city quickly.

Tip #7 - Other tips and tricks for Heroes of History

There are many things you can do to progress quickly, so below I've compiled a list of additional Heroes of History tips to help set you on the path to success:
- When you start playing, make sure you complete the Rise to the Stars quest line, which requires you to collect 160 stars from Campaign Map battles. This will give you one guaranteed Epic or Legendary hero.
- Expand your map whenever you can. This should always be your number one priority. You will get additional expansions by completing battles.
- Join an Alliance as soon as you can. It's important to join an active one, so you can help each other out.
- If possible, share your Invite code with friends. Everyone who uses your invite code will get additional benefits, and when you have invited other 15 players, you'll collect a total of 4 Antimatter and 2 Legendary Antimatter.
- Don't spend your Gems on upgrades. If you really must, spend the Gems on premium buildings or event items.
