Gwent: The Witcher Card Game launches for Android today

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, CD Projekt Red's card battler, is finally available for Android devices following a brief beta test earlier this month. If you took part in the beta, your progress should carry over to the full release.

If you know nought about Gwent, it actually started out as a fun diversion in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It grew so popular, even getting physical decks bundles with the game's DLC, that not one but two games spawned from it: Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales and a more fleshed-out version of the basic mini-game in Gwent: The Witcher Card Game.

I played a silly amount of Gwent both physically and in The Witcher 3. The version I enjoyed back then is vastly different and more straightforward than the iOS and Android release, which takes the core mechanics of the mini-game and expands upon them greatly.

The original Gwent was good fun, but it didn't exactly have legs, especially considering the fact that you could spam the exact same tactics every round and inevitably win. Spies out first, give your opponent the first round, mess around in round 2 until they pass, then throw down your high-point siege cards and bring out the commander's horns.

If that made absolutely no sense to you, I'd strongly advise checking out The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in any of its many forms. It's even out for Nintendo Switch, so you've almost no excuse not so.

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game launched for iOS last year, meaning Android players have had to wait a fair while to take it for a spin. You'll find it available for download now as a free-to-play title from both the App Store and Google Play.
