Old Navy, the US retailer known for a non-traditional approach to marketing and sales, is staying true to its reputation in its search for a developer to create its new branded social game.

Along with virtual currency platform, gWallet, it's sponsoring a contest that offers big rewards for the developer with the most creative game concept using its brand.

The Old Navy Developers Challenge is month long competition that awards $15,000 cash and PR and marketing to the winning outfit.

The twist; only developers whose existing live game, app, or community has at least 50,000 US monthly active unique visitors are qualified to compete.

Going through the stages

Registration for the contest ends on January 31, and you'll have to use Old Navy approved guidelines and creative assets, working on web, Facebook, Myspace, Hi5 and Mindjolt platforms.

A final mockup of your game concept using Flash, PDF or PPT needs to be submitted by February 10. Three finalists will be then selected to "test" their games with their community for two weeks.

The winner will be selected by a panel of judges from Old Navy, social developer Crowdstar, and gWallet, at the official Old Navy event held in San Francisco at GDC on March 1. The game will also feature on gWallet's monetisation platform.
