Geometry Wars: Touch was one of the big surprises of the iPad launch back at the beginning of March. Though minor control issues prevented it from being the classic on iPad that it is on XBLA, it's still a thoroughly respectable Bronze Award-winning title, with 4.5 stars on the App Store.

Thanks to an update today, you don't need to have an iPad to play it. Geometry Wars: Touch is now available as a universal app, which means it also works on iPhone and iPod touch.

In case you're unfamilar, Geometry Wars is a pared down arcade blaster that pioneered the twin-stick control method so favoured by iPhone game developers today. Aficionados will tell you that it's a riff on the themes of twitch-gaming and high score chasing, with a minimal aesthetic to complement its pure, distilled gameplay.

The iPhone and iPad versions not only reproduce the original quite well, but they include a whole extra mode – Titan – in which you gradually disassemble giant foes with your neon bullets, filling up the screen with a swarm of living constituents.

Geometry Wars: Touch costs £2.99.
