Running a factory isn't much fun. You spend most of your time being laughed at by bolshie women, and then end up in convoluted love triangles while trying to rescue the business. We've seen Coronation Street, we know how it goes.

Still, Glu reckons you might fancy a crack at this mass-production lark. It's therefore readying the release of Frantic Factory, an original game for mobile that's a bit like a cross between The Incredible Machine and Pipemania.

Basically, it's a top-down game where you have to place conveyor belts and mechanical bits 'n' pieces on your factory floor, in order to assemble your products and get them out the door.

Along the way, you have to negotiate obstacles – for example, deploying catapults to spring your products over a pesky wall. If only it was that fun in the real world.

The game includes three product types and we've been playing a cake factory in the preview version that Glu sent us. So far, Frantic Factory looks like a quirky and extremely playable puzzler that deserves a wide audience on mobile.
