Speaking with PocketGamer.biz, Firemint’s CEO Robert Murray has been musing on the prospects of the PSP Go!, downloadable software, and the relative merits of different form factors.

Although Sony is clearly edging in Apple's direction with its latest hardware update, Murray believes the iPhone and PSP Go! will have some significant differences.

"With a standard controller as opposed to touchscreen and accelerometer, the PSP will require more traditional game design," says Murray. "This is good and bad. A lot of gamers will prefer solid buttons and a D-pad, but the iPhone's finger touchscreen and accelerometer really offer designers something fresh to innovate with."

On the subject of digital distribution, where the two devices overlap more substantially, Murray is positive. “It looks like Sony is getting very serious about digital download,” he says, “and I think that is good for everyone because I believe that digital download is the future.”

Firemint last night revealed that it has submitted its much anticipated iPhone racer Real Racing to Apple for approval. Flight Control, a ruinously addictive casual game that the developer banged out as an interim project, has seen huge success on the App Store.
