Fieldrunners gets Game Center support, new maps coming soon

Hardy iPhone tower defense classic Fieldrunners has received a new update with some new features, improved stability, and the promise of new maps.

Fieldrunners was one of the first big hits for the iPhone, coming out not long after the App Store debuted and being the go-to download for all game-hungry iDevice owners. It’s since been released on Nintendo DSi, PSP, PS3, and mobile.

The updates 1.4.0 and 1.4.1 give the game Game Center support, with achievements and leaderboards on Apple’s new Xbox Live-esque service. It also features multitasking support for iOS 4.

There are also a few tweaks and fixes: stability support for the new iOS 4.1 released last week and high resolution icons for gamers on the iPhone 4 or iPod touch fourth generation.

Finally, the feature bump promises that new maps are in the works. The game has seen a few extra maps since launch, some of which have been free and others have been in-app downloads for 59p / 99c / €0.79c.

Fieldrunners, if you still haven’t got it, is £1.79 / $2.99 / €2.39 on iPhone and iPod touch, and £4.99 / $7.99 / €5.99 on iPad.
