A new indie game from developer Hideki Hanida has launched on iOS: EISEN. EISEN seeks to transport you directly to the cockpit of a giant mech in the midst of different battlefields, turning your entire screen into said cockpit and immersing you right into the battle with some truly stunning visual work that truly turns your phone into a simulation of piloting a massive sci-fi robot.

EISEN knows exactly what it is, and doesn’t bother with a sprawling plot or any super complicated mechanics. Instead, this one is all focused on simply survival-like waves of enemy mechs coming at you left and right as you try to take them all down. All you have at your disposal are your weapons, a radar up above on the screen, and your skills.

If you’ve played games like Mechwarrior or even the now-defunct Hawken, EISEN is clearly inspired by the likes of such titles. You will not spend a minute outside of this cockpit, and you will watch as all of your instruments respond to each of your touches and taps, all equaling out to one of the most immersive experiences available for mobile devices, and from a small indie dev too!

There are some light progression elements in the form of unlockable upgrades that you’ll choose between as you defeat waves, but aside from that, you will simply be engaging in both close-quarters and long-range combat with a variety of enemy mechs, being forced to utilise cover and stay mobile to not get torn to shreds by the heavy weaponry being thrown at you.

EISEN is, in my humble opinion, one of the most impressive indie releases I’ve seen in a while. Sure, the content is relatively light, but the way it actually turns your entire screen into a simulation of such a cool concept is awesome to me. If that sounds as cool to you as it does me, you can purchase it at the link below for only $1.99.
