3D turn-based battles as you dungeon crawl like the best

Duskfall is a brand-new indie take on the Wizardrylike, out now

| Duskfall
  • Duskfall is a 3D dungeon crawler that sees you explore the depths of a labyrinth
  • A turn-based RPG, you'll assemble a party to duke it out with monsters
  • In the style of Wizardry this new indie title lets you dungeon crawl in first person

When it comes to RPGs, for the longest time it seems as if bigger worlds and vaster environments have become in vogue. But for some of us, there'll always be something charming about the classic dungeon-crawling roguelike. And it's that itch that the new indie game Duskfall seeks to scratch.

Even at a glance, it should be easy to see where this game takes its inspiration, as the turn-based, first-person combat and dungeon crawling are very evocative of the cult-classic Wizardry series. Add onto that an extensive party-building system and layers of stats to explore, and it's definitely got the depth you're expecting.

Graphics-wise, while this is no next-gen game by any measure, Duskfall does hold up surprisingly well, especially for a smaller screen. I wouldn't be surprised if, while people are waiting for more official takes like the upcoming Wizardry Variants: Daphne, they decide to give Duskfall a go.

Dusk has fallen

Duskfall definitely has the feel of an indie, and it likely won't satisfy the more graphically-demanding fans out there. But again, the charm of things like Wizardry and those that emulate it like Duskfall, I feel, is the more focused gameplay experience. That and the fun of pumping up stats to utterly godlike levels, which is sadly something that seems to have fallen by the wayside in many modern mainstream RPGs.

Still, if Duskfall is a bit too indie for you, why not check out some of the picks we've chosen for our list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far)? Featuring the top entries from launches over the last ten months.

And if that's somehow still not enough, or you're merely a bit budget-conscious, why not dig into our other list of the top 25 free-to-play games on iOS and Android for even more options?
