DoomGLES for Android makes Doom look fresh again
OpenGL graphics and Xperia Play support for granddad of FPS games
id Software's Doom is the epitome of 'classic shooter', managing to find its way onto almost as many platforms as Angry Birds since its release almost 20 years ago.
It does, however, look a bit long in the tooth nowadays against all those young upstarts like Modern Combat 3.
That's where DoomGLES comes in, offering up OpenGL support for high-end handsets that makes the old dog look fresh again.
Dynamic stuffIn the dev's own words, DoomGLES is "the best-looking Doom on mobile devices".
It's definitely a looker, that's for sure, thanks to its high-res assets, real-time dynamic lighting, realistic water effects, and more.
DoomGLES isn't the full version of Doom as only the shareware .wad file is provided with the game (and it would be illegal otherwise). You can add the full version's files using the instructions in the game's description, however, if you have them.
DoomGLES is available from the Google Play Store for £1.35 [buy]. Check out a gameplay video for it below.
