5 ways that Dofus Touch on iOS and Android will be different to Dofus on PC

Dofus Touch

"Dofus Touch is not Dofus," says developer Ankama Games. The upcoming mobile MMO is based on the mega popular Flash edition, but it won't be a direct port.

Here are the five major differences between the two editions of the game.

The mobile version won't have the latest stuff

"Dofus Touch won’t be released with as much content as the PC version, says Ankama. "The developers could work day and night to catch up to the PC version, but they’d never get there".

Instead, Touch will have content equivalent to the 2.14 update, which is called Wetuwn of the Wa and came out in August 2013.

That means that almost three years of updates, changes, improvements, and content will be missing. You won't get the treasure hunting added in 2.19, the Albatrocious Rock area introduced in 2.22, or the new bounty monsters that arrived in 2.28.

All the updates can be found here

Still, you'll get nine years worth of Dofus content the second Dofus Touch comes out. Not too shabby.

It will have full touch controls

The Touch edition has been designed specifically for tablets, so you can command your characters by sliding your finger about the screen. No need for awkward virtual joysticks or d-pads. Hooray!

You can't play with your PC character

Sadly, you won't be able to transfer your progress from the browser game to the mobile version. "It is extremely difficult to synchronise the two versions, especially since the PC version is constantly evolving," says Ankama.

Instead you'll have to start from scratch. Maybe use this as an excuse to try out a new character build?

You'll only need to download a few maps at a time

Don't worry about Dofus taking up loads of space on your phone. In this mobile version, the maps will be downloaded when necessary and your most-visited maps will be kept in memory.

You won't pay for it in the same way.

Dofus Touch won’t offer a subscription plan. "Instead, it will have an economic model more in line with other tablet games," the developer adds.

That means, drum roll please, microtransactions. You'll be able to spend real money (currently, Euros) on a virtual currency called Goultines.

This will let you buy from a virtual shop stuffed with cosmetic items, consumables to speed up progression, services for changing your character, pets and mounts, and emotes.

You can also change Goultines into Kamas - the main currency in the game. And with those you can buy stuff from the markets. The player who sells the item will earn Kamas.

The game's currently in beta in a few countries and will release worldwide on iOS and Android later this year.
