At first glance, you'd be forgiven for believing that Dodge Blast was developed by the excellent Nitrome. It's clear that was the style it was aiming for.

But it wasn't, so how well has the developer managed to emulate the solid Nitrome charm? We asked the App Army exactly that - and here's how they got on.

This game is different but not enough to make it fun for very long. Tap right and left to dodge, fire a weapon that you can upgrade. You have a limited number of bullets which you can recharge by dodging and killing enemies.

I'm still on section one but don't really have any inclination to progress. I'm not saying it's the worst game, but it's not going to hold your attention for very long.

I'm so so about this. I find the way to play it is to hit dodge and fire at the same time. so I am randomly firing and dodging.

I need to play it more. The idea is okay, but it doesn't hook me like other games. It doesn't give me that just one more go feeling.

The control method is impossible to use. Tap once to go left, tap the same button again to go right, rinse and repeat. What's that all about? It's just not working for me. I need left and right buttons!

When I first started playing Dodge Blast, I wasn't sure what to make of it. I didn't understand the controls and almost gave up. However, after a little while I caught on and the game started to become fun.

I love vertical shooters and the control scheme on this one makes it a little different when you don't have the standard left and right movement buttons. Having to time my shots as the ship moves back and forth was fun once I got the hang of it though.

I found hitting the enemy ships to be a nice challenge. The graphics are definitely retro, which for me is great, because I love retro games.

The game has multiple levels, multiple ships to unlock, and various enemies/bosses to defeat.

Overall, I liked the game once I mastered the controls and would play it more in the future. It is a nice time waster in between rounds of more serious gaming.
